YELP should make a category for Best Hole-In-The-Wall restaurants. Because Jenaritos Grocery Store & Latin Food is one of them!!! We were trying to find a restaurant on the Dine Out Lauderdale list when we came across this El Salvadoran hidden gem! The only ways to truly know where is it located is to know the area, or happen to see the tall Jenaritos sign by the sidewalk. We walked right past it. Even when we returned, we weren't certain that was it because it, as well as the other shared businesses next to it were labeled. The true reveal was the sign. The sign was the sign! Be prepared to be able to speak a minimum of Spanish when ordering. We were greeted warmly, and started our order. If you don't use it, you lose it. Our Spanish was good enough to complete the order. We apologized for it afterward, but were assured it was good. There is nothing fancy going on inside. Order and pickup at the counter. A large menu is posted in plain view behind it. There is enough seating for a few groups of people. And Latin food items available for purchase just like at a bodega. If you order pupusas, which we did, we must inform you that you NEVER eat a pupusa with a utensil! You must ALWAYS eat a pupusa by hand. Those IG posts show how do it correctly. Our order didn't take long, and we were ecstatic with the taste! La Molienda was our go to for pupusas until it closed after 2020. Jenaritos not only replaced it in our hearts, but also in our stomachs! It was the first time we were able to eat pupusa with curtido. Usually, the curtido is overly crisp or too pickled. Jenaritos make curtido just right! Going back to the start, YELP really should consider that category. Small businesses make up over 80 percent of businesses in the country. And small, family-owned restaurant that occupy small or obscure spaces are often among the best. There are hits as well as misses. It's the hits we want to know about! Jenaritos is our new go to for El Salvadoran fare. Hope it will be yours too!
If you have a ever visited a country store in Latin America, this is the feel when you walk in. The staff is very courteous and attentive. We had two baleadas and they were absolutely delicious!! They have a few tables and barstool area where you can dine in or take out as well. We will be back to try their breakfast. A new found gem!!
So excited to have found this place! Driving around in the area we ran into Jenaritos. As a salvadoreña I'm always looking for places with authentic salvadorean food, we noticed a lot of people coming in and out of this place and figured it was a good spot to try. We visited today for breakfast and ordered pupusas. I was so happy to know they offer "rice" pupusas! I hadn't had rice pupusas in years!! They're usually sold only in one area of the country itself in El Salvador so I was surprised to find them here! What a treat! Absolutely delicious! I also tried their regular corn based pupusas and were excellent as well. This is no fancy place, but its authenticity makes it charming and welcoming. Being at Jenaritos brings me back to my time growing up in El Salvador and visiting "Pupuserias." I would totally recommend this place and will be coming back over and over again.
The food is delirious but it a relatively new location. The place needs alot of renovations but the food and service awesome. A friendly, family atmosphere.
Don't be intimidated by this place, it's a rundown convenient store but the food and staff are awesome. Some of the best pupusas I have ever had big and cheap, $1.50.
Best arroz con pollo I've ever had in my entire life!!! Delicious food!!! Yum!!! I will come back for more!
Hole in the wall, not very appealing, but food is AMAZING! Real traditional Salvadoran. Homemade taste that makes your feel like your grandma made the food. Pupusas are even better than in most pupuserias in El Salvador. Musts are: Pupusas revueltas (rice or corn masa) with curtido and salsa. Everything else!
